Philosophy

..."the quantum leaps of risk and wild mind. Wild mind, which is by nature elegant. And I am interested in cultures where poetry is built into how people understand their experience, their consciousness, their history."

- Anne Waldman

Beneath the layers of civilization with its man-made structures and institutions here is the land; the living, pulsing earthscape, the physical reality of an immeasurable force that we are interdependent with. Cultivating my connections to the natural world is a practice of dissolving ego and allowing questions, musings and poetics to create dialogue with the art making process. The most powerful and direct way I do this is by walking with intent on open land, anywhere that is not paved over, observing and perceiving the extensions of being human. These directives of curiosity can lead me into research and quasi scientific experiments such as The Bowl Project and Essensual Exchanges. These are the thoughts that I pursue in my 2D work and installations while exploring materials and techniques.

Work Methods

My 2D works are a build up of layers of cement, paper, drawings, gestures and materials that capture the sensibilities I'm reaching for. Also I set up experiments with water and algae, paper and plant solutions and other assortments of collections from my walks. In the past I achieved a level of craftsmanship as a goldsmith, which I strive for in all other applications of material combining and building.
